New Chapter in the Life of Black Country House

Walsall based developer, Goold Estates, are transforming Black Country House, a high profile office building with a prestigious history in Oldbury.

A £1 million project to provide high quality office space has already commenced and will be completed in July. Dominic Goold, Managing Director of Goold Estates commented "Having purchased the building last year we have pressed ahead with this major project to include a new façade and a full refurbishment of the second floor together with a new high quality reception area and common parts as well as new lifts and wc’s. We are already showing prospective occupiers around the building and receiving excellent feedback. This is gratifying given that there are very few developers carrying out speculative development in this current economic climate."

The building was originally the headquarters of Accles and Pollock famous for building the world’s first all‐metal aircraft, the Mayfly and also in 1963, for producing the world’s smallest recorded tube. Indeed the balustrade on the staircase is made of their extruded tubing.

The company’s unusual name led to a famous advertising campaign in the 1950’s based upon the mis‐spelling of their name following the successful delivery of a letter, without delay, addressed to Speckles and Dollops Ltd, England with the words, "try Apples and Scollops, Oldbury"scribbled on the envelope.

More recently many will remember the building being home to the Black Country Development Corporation. Existing occupiers include Fosters and Cross.

Kelvin Craddock of Jones Lang LaSalle, joint letting agent with Knight Frank added "We are able to offer suites from 1,012 to 10,417 sq ft. With a car parking ratio of 1:244 sq ft and being less than a mile from Junction 2 of the M5 motorway we are seeing interest from a wide range of occupiers also attracted by the flexible terms on offer. "

Goold Estates are seeking similar opportunities showing their confidence in the commercial property market.
